Drae Smith, a Youngstown State graduate, is in his second year with the Athletics Communications Department as a Graduate Assistant. Smith coordinates the media and social media publicity for the men's and women's golf programs and the baseball team. He also hosts the Penguins Insiders Podcast, which offers insight into YSU Athletics and profiles student-athletes and coaches.

Smith has served as a key part of YSU's Penguin Radio Network for the past four years. He is currently a radio play-by-play broadcaster for YSU women's basketball and a sideline reporter for radio broadcasts of Youngstown State football on 570 WKBN, 1390 WNIO & iHeartRadio. He is the television play-by-play voice for YSU women's basketball home games on ESPN+, and the color analyst for YSU football home games on the same platform.

A native of East Palestine, Ohio, he is a veteran broadcaster who has experience in sports marketing. He spent two years as a show host and producer for Rookery Radio, the official YSU student radio station. He also has sales experience working as the Director of Operations and Customer Service at Golf Headquarters (GolfHQ.com) in Boardman, Ohio.

Smith earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in marketing from the Williamson College of Business at Youngstown State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in May 2014. As an undergraduate, he was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society and received the WCBA Senior Leadership Award and YSU Trustees Scholarship. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Professional Communication from the College of Creative Arts and Communication at YSU.
